Wild Update Appeared!

Okay, well, it's been a long time since I last updated this. My last semester came and went, there was a turbulent storm of drama in my life, I'm getting over one of the worst colds I've ever had (which has made me quite sluggish and whiny and cranky for the past few weeks)... yeah, yeah, I know. Excuses, excuses! I can't really blame any of those things for the fact that I haven't put any work up here. I'm sorry, little blog. I'll try to make up for lost time.

For future reference, I just signed up for a Vimeo account. Literally about a few minutes ago. I'll probably upload videos of rough animation tests on there, but if I don't post them on the blog (which is likely... of course), you can periodically check it out here.

So what am I doing art wise? Let's take a look!

The first image is yet another one of my Peruvian Mask portraits. It's so interesting how the project's been evolving ever since my first attempt (which... actually, I'll have to post all of the pictures so everyone can see how much things have changed). You can see a little bit of the first Peruvian Mask portrait in the last image at the bottom, which I had to throw together (along with the other picture) for my printing class. The middle picture is my experiment with stereograms, which I'll probably talk more about in a later post. I honestly don't know what the hell I'm doing when it comes to the software, but it's something I've recently been interested in and that I'm... well, just experimenting with.

Alright, there's just a couple things. A taste, if you will, of the stuff that I've been up to. I've got storyboards, more portraits, some watercolors, some animation that I need to get done... man, I have a LOT of stuff to cover. XD! But all in due time, kids.

(Also... ha! I remembered that these posts automatically go over to my Tumblr. Sweet! Now if you follow that you can get these post updates... AND MORE! So if you really want to follow my art more... in-depth, I suppose... go subscribe to the tumblr!)

Hey, I Think I'll Post Some Animation!

Yikes. It's been a while.

I'm taking two animation classes this semester. It's going to kill me, but hopefully when I'm not busy bludgeoning myself in the head with pencil testers I can post some of the stuff that I've been doing.

That said, here's a quick After Effects test that I did for my first class in Computer Animation. It's really simple. It's really stupid. But it's something, at least.

Once I get the lip sync project that I'm working on now done, I'll put that up, too. And if you don't see anything here for a while, I might just put it up on my tumblr.

That's all. For NOW. Muahuahuahuahuahuahaaa.

The Elderly: In 3-D!

Wow! Finally! I have something cool to post! Yay! I'm excited! I should probably stop writing sentences ending in exclamation points and get to what I want to show everyone!

So for the past few months I've been (slowly) working on an animated short for my animation class. It's about these old ladies who live in the jungle, and are trying to hunt down a raptor who's taken their coveted tea set. Needless to say... it's pretty genius. I'm also taking a 3-D printing class, and for the final we had to create a 3-D model in either Maya or ZBrush, then have it printed in our school's rapid prototyper. So I thought, why not model and print out one of the characters from my animation for the final? It was a wonderful plan, if I do say so myself.

This is Agatha, the leader of the old lady gang...

And here is the head of Agatha, leader of the old lady gang!

No, I'm not a fan of decapitation, but the head alone cost me $17 to print out, and to print the whole model would have made me much poorer than I already am. But there you go. Hooray for rapid prototypers and my limitless imagination! Hooray that I now have my modeling final done! ...now I just have to get my animation final done. Hope I'm not dead by the end of the week. Yikes.

...wait, I have a blog?

Yikes, I haven't posted here for a long time.

Long story short, I've been busy with other websites and just sort of forgot about Blogger. That said, I've just started fiddling around with Illustrator and I might have a few things to put up here. Because... you know... I really should start actually putting this to some use. Argh. My so-called grown up blog is still tiny and sad. And that's depressing. The intellectuals are winning! This must cease to be.

This is my first post.

Here I am, world.

I am Maz, and this is my grown up blog.

Wait, my "grown up blog"? I guess that remark makes me sort of ageist. I mean, of course, I suppose that people who are younger than me already have blogs here on Blogger, and are probably already busy writing about very important, intellectual things, such as the new Simple Plan concert, or politics ("Bush sucks!"). To these people I say, "Good for you and your writings! You young people are on the course of leading us, the world, to intellectual victory in the near future!" I, on the other hand, am on the course of leading the future world not down their path of intelligence, but onward down the path of coolness and badassery. I envision a future where everyone is nice to each other, and in which everyone enjoys the finest in clothing, vehicles, dining, and entertainment. I plan to realize this future with my inspirational words, on this very blog.

Okay, not really. Basically, this blog is just a departure from the millions of other blogs I own on various websites (most of which are now defunct and outdated). What I'm planning to do with this baby is to chronicle my growing artistic career, since right now I am on a quest to become an animator (don't ask for which company, because I haven't decided). Also, perhaps from time to time I'll pen a short story or two about my daily awesomeness. I am pretty awesome, hence the title of this blog. I might also rant about various cartoons I've watched... which you could say isn't a very grown up thing for a grown up blog to include, but I'm a future animator, so I have a valid excuse to watch them.

Anyway, if I'm going to be an artist, animator, what have you, I better get cracking on my artwork until I write the next post. Goodbye, world. Go back to reading about My Chemical Romance and looking at your YTMNDs.
